Welcome to COPD Week at the ATS!

I am delighted to welcome you to "Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) week" at the American Thoracic Society, which highlights the role of ATS in supporting the needs of patients with COPD.   The American Thoracic Society is pleased to partner with the COPD Foundation and the Respiratory Health Association (RHA) of Metropolitan Chicago in this important effort.

Established in 2004, the COPD Foundation is a not-for-profit organization focused on developing and supporting programs which improve the quality of life for persons whose lives are impacted by COPD, through research, education, early diagnosis, and enhanced therapy. The RHA has been a leading lung health advocate since 1906 and helps to support lung disease research conducted in Chicago area universities. Advocacy efforts led by RHA, in collaboration with individuals and partner organizations, culminated in the passage of smoke-free legislation in Chicago and Illinois, and limitations on power plant emissions.

We welcome "COPD week at the ATS" and our partnership in this awareness campaign. We look forward to sharing information that will help guide families, advance research, and support clinicians and other health professionals in their efforts to prevent, treat, and cure COPD.
