Welcome Message

The ATS is delighted to partner with the ARDS Foundation and the ATS PAR to sponsor ARDS Week at the ATS.  This week provides us an opportunity to highlight the importance of ARDS and, more importantly, to highlight the opportunity we have to decrease the mortality and the morbidity of this disease.

ARDS is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the United States.  In the past 40 years, there have been many exciting advances in our understanding of the causes of ARDS as well as some of the things we can do to improve survival for patients with ARDS.

However, despite this impressive progress, ARDS remains a leading killer and there remains much work to be done.  ARDS still kills many children, young adults, and older adults.  Even among patients who survive a hospital stay for ARDS, many have a significant decrease in their quality of life as a result of ARDS.

ARDS Week at the ATS is our chance to focus on this important disease and find ways to increase research and decrease the terrible impact this disease has on the lives of many patients and their families.
